A Responsible Approach

Note: The following excerpts are from a speech by Williams' Dave Cesark in Spring 2004. Dave is an environmental specialist for Williams in Colorado.

"Public lands in the West belong to all Americans and should be open for sustainable use. Many of our Western states are comprised of more than 50 percent federal land. The economy of this mostly rural region rests on the idea that you can have multiple use on this public land..."

"As an industry, we are continually striving to improve our operations." These actions include:

  • The use of 3-D seismic technology to better pinpoint where companies explore
  • Directional drilling that reduces the surface footprint
  • Improved reclamation and well-siting techniques that quickly restore the surface
  • Advanced completion techniques that eliminate flaring in many locations
  • Recycling produced water for use in drilling operations to reduce the consumption of fresh water

"...Even though we can dramatically increase our energy production in an environmentally sound manner, it is imperative that we also use it more wisely. Conserving energy and using it more efficiently are critical to eliminating the country's tight supply/demand situation."
