Sentinel Expansion Project
During the past 50 years, Williams' Transco pipeline has been quietly, safely and reliably
delivering natural gas to its customers through its 10,500-mile pipeline system, extending
from Texas to New York.
The Transco pipeline is a major transporter of
natural gas to the Northeast region, delivering much of the natural
gas consumed in New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
Natural gas demand in the Northeast is steadily increasing, in large part due to its
environmental advantages compared to other fossil fuels. According to the United States
Department of Energy, natural gas consumption in this region is expected to increase
nearly 8 percent by 2009.
Williams has received customer requests to deliver additional natural gas supplies
to this area by November 2009. To meet this need, Williams is developing
a proposal known as the Sentinel Expansion Project to expand existing
pipeline facilities in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
