This month the industry advocacy group Energy in Depth premiered the video “Women in the Marcellus.”  The video follows the everyday life stories of three women based right here in the Marcellus Shale. It gives a refreshing glimpse from a woman’s perspective as to how the natural gas industry is helping locals keep their businesses thriving and reuniting families back to their communities.

More than a 100 women came out recently to watch the film’s premiere in Williamsport.  Among those in attendance was the film’s director Elin Barton.  Born and raised in upstate New York, Elin moved to LA to pursue her passion in filmmaking. After creating films for 10 years and starting a family, Elin and her family decided to move back to the area to start up their own Pennsylvania film production company, White Knight Productions.

“As a female business owner and film producer in another predominately male driven industry, it was very rewarding to work on this project to highlight the women’s perspective,” Elin says.  “With the widespread media coverage usually slanted to the negative, it’s been very rewarding to be able to tell the other side of the story – the positive side that I hear every day from all my neighbors and the people I meet in my community.”

At Williams one of our core values is community support.  We recognize and enthusiastically accept our responsibility to the communities we serve, through acting as a good neighbor and through involvement and support for community activities.  We are honored to stand beside these women in the communities in which we operate and help continue to create opportunities as an industry for their businesses and family members.
