The world is quickly recognizing that natural gas is the backbone of reliable, affordable and cleaner energy, CEO Chad Zamarin told analysts after the release of the company’s second quarter 2025 earnings.
“The race for the next generation of technology is on, and it’s a race that we as a country can’t afford to lose,” he said. “Natural gas is going to be the critical tool that unlocks our full potential.”
Demand is robust across the Williams’ footprint, as demonstrated this summer when the Transco system set an all-time record for summer demand, despite cooler average temperatures.
To meet burgeoning need, Williams has placed Transco’s Louisiana Energy Gateway and Southeast Energy Connection projects into service, while accelerating the timeline for the Southeast Supply Enhancement expansion.
Additionally, the company has signed commercial agreements for Transco’s Northeast Supply Enhancement project, which will supply gas to New York City, which relies on more expensive and dirtier forms of energy like fuel oil.
“We need states to re-embrace the need for infrastructure,” Zamarin told CNBC. “It’s super critical for the affordability of energy here at home, but also for us to deliver the opportunity and meet our full potential for the future.”
Williams also broke ground on Socrates, a $1.6 billion Power Innovation project in Ohio to serve growing AI demand. That project is expected to be complete within 18 months, Zamarin told Bloomberg TV.
He said China has grown electricity production by seven times over the last quarter century.
“We as a country need to get going with respect to building energy infrastructure at a scale that we have not done for over the last 25 years. Natural gas is the most dispatchable, reliable and affordable solution that we have.”
