Williams’ 4th Annual BBQ Cook-Off Benefits United Way

Staff Reports

On Sept. 18, the sun was shinning and the smokers were blazing as Williams held the 4th Annual Marcellus Barbecue Cook-Off event – a fundraiser for the United Way.

The event featured teams cooking their specialties: BBQ ribs, beef brisket or pulled pork, to be judged by a slew of VIP judges in a fierce (but friendly) cooking competition.

The weather was beautiful and turnout was high for the event, held for the first time at Lazy Brook Park in Tunkhannock, Pa. Thirty cook teams participated, providing mouthwatering samples to hundreds of hungry judges who voted to determine the winners in each BBQ category.

In addition, cookers vied to win the People’s Choice category, determined by how much they raised through monetary voting during the cook-off. Ultimately, cook teams competed to win the coveted Grand Champion trophy…and the associated ‘best barbecue’ bragging rights.

The official results of the 4th Annual Cook-Off:

Category Winners:

BBQ Ribs: Cabot Pitmaster (Cabot Team)

Pulled Pork: Shakabuku (Shakabuku Catering)

Beef Brisket: Bradford Backdraft BBQ (Williams’ Bradford Team)

People’s Choice: Spuds & Suds (Williams’ Susquehanna Team)

Grand Champion: Shakabuku (category winner who raised most money in People’s Choice)

The cook-off served as Williams’ largest United Way fundraising event in the Susquehanna Supply Hub operating area. Eligible proceeds from the event will be matched by Williams and provided to local United Way chapters in New York (Broome County) and northeast Pennsylvania (Susquehanna County, Wyoming County and Wyoming Valley).

Williams greatly appreciates the support received for the event from the cook teams, judge teams, general public, contributors and dozens of employee volunteers who helped make the Williams 4th Annual BBQ Cook-Off a huge success.
