Early Career

Transitioning from North to South

Staff Reports

Hi, Nydia here, and you may recall from my last post that I graduated in 2014 from Penn State University with a degree in Chemical Engineering. Right after I graduated, I was hired into Williams Professional Development Program, which gives me the opportunity to experience three different positions in three years. Last year I worked in Project Development in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I recently moved to Geismar, Louisiana (right outside of Baton Rouge and Louisiana State University) to begin my second rotation as an Operations Engineer for our Ethylene Plant.

When I told people I was moving to Louisiana, every one told me two things: you will love the food and it will be hot. They did not lie. The temperature this past summer got up to a high of 107 with 90% humidity. And the food is amazing. I tried crawfish for the first time and loved it.

Making the change from being born and raised in the Northeast and moving to the South has been a learning experience that is unparalleled. I am so thankful that I get to grow as an individual and as an engineer. I am looking forward to more good food, more high temperatures, and LSU football season. I’ll always be a Nittany Lion but for this football season: GEAUX TIGERS!
