Maintaining Safety and Reliability
ABOUT THE PROJECT
This work is a temporary maintenance activity being performed by Williams, the operator of the Transco interstate natural gas pipeline system. The work involves Mainline B, a segment of the Transco system – one of the nation’s largest natural gas pipeline networks. The State of Maryland is not conducting or directing this work.
WHY THIS PROJECT MATTERS
- Supports compliance with federal pipeline safety requirements
- Part of Williams Integrity Management and Process Safety Management programs
- Helps ensure the continued safe and reliable operation of existing energy infrastructure
PROJECT LOCATION AND ACCESS
- A segment of Transco’s transmission system adjacent to Gunpowder Falls State Park
- Limited, temporary use of a portion of the Torrey C. Brown Rail Trail for project access
PROJECT ACTIVITIES AND DURATION
- Excavation of a portion of the pipeline to allow for routine inspection and examination
- Restoration of affected areas in an environmentally responsible manner
- Temporary work expected to last approximately 30 days
