Editor’s note: Mike Bedient, community outreach partner for Williams’ Rockaway Lateral project, submitted this report. Mike has been meeting with community organizations in the Rockaway area delivering grants from Williams’ grants program.

I had the pleasure of meeting with Kevin Alexander, President and CEO of the Rockaway Development & Revitalization Corporation (RDRC).

Williams’ grant will go toward the Healthy Foods Program which is a two-year project funded by The New York Community Trust Foundation and RDRC. The program is the RDRC’s attempt to change people’s behavior about eating healthy by providing workshops and demonstrations, and by developing a distribution network that includes mobile produce carts, local grocers and bodegas.

Their collaborative partners include GrowNYC, Bed Stuy Against Hunger, American Planning Association, Hunter College, King of Kings Foundation, and Rockaway Youth Task Force, which also received a grant as a part of Williams’ Rockaway Grant Program. Good job, team!
