It really is bigger in Texas — when it comes to usage of natural gas

Staff Reports

While natural gas is used throughout the United States, did you know five states accounted for about 37% of total U.S. natural gas consumption in 2018?

They are:

  • Texas 14.7%
  • California 7.1%
  • Louisiana 5.8%
  • Florida 4.9%
  • Pennsylvania 4.8%

So, why is Texas No. 1?

According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, Texas is the largest energy-producing and energy-consuming state in the nation. The industrial sector, including refineries and petrochemical plants, accounts for half of the energy consumed in the state.
