Operations supervisor celebrates Hispanic heritage and career growth at Williams

“Family looks out for each other, and so do co-workers”

Robert Martinez comes from a close-knit family that stretches generations in South Texas.

Family looks out for each other, and so do co-workers, said the Pearsall-based supervisor of operations.

That’s why his primary goal every day is for each employee to go home safe from work.

“My main duty is to ensure the well-being and safety of myself, my team and the surrounding community in relation to our operations,” he said.

Martinez joined Williams in 2015 as an operations technician and took leadership of the safety committee, leading monthly meetings for the Eagle Ford and Permian districts.

He also has served as a life critical coach and continuous improvement specialist, developing processes and safety materials. All of those roles helped him as he became an operations leader, he said.

“My experience on the front lines instilled in me a profound appreciation for the supporting teams at all levels who prioritize our well-being and safety every day,” he said. “Williams is full of great people who are all trying to do great things.”

Martinez also is a member of Williams’ Latin Employee Resource Group (ERG). He said he’s valued learning about other Latin cultures while sharing his own experience as a third-generation Mexican-American.

“ERGs are a way to reconnect with your own cultural heritage and to explore the rich diversity of others.”

The Latin ERG will host an event for all employees during National Hispanic Heritage Month, featuring the executive director of Leadership Tulsa and focusing on career development.

Hispanic Heritage Month runs from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15 and recognizes the contributions and influence of Hispanic and Latinx culture on the nation.

Martinez says his parents, grandparents and great grandparents worked hard to create successful lives in the United States, after immigrating from Mexico. “Their struggles and sacrifices paved the way for future generations.”
