At Williams, advancing energy reliability and emissions transparency go hand in hand. Our NextGen Gas program represents a next step in how natural gas is responsibly produced, moved to market, measured and delivered, providing customers with certified, lower emissions natural gas supported by advanced monitoring, rigorous verification and end-to-end accountability.

What is Williams’ certified lower-emissions NextGen Gas?

Williams’ certified, lower-emissions NextGen Gas is a natural gas offering with measured, monitored, reported and independently verified emissions intensity from wellhead to market tracked on a transparent blockchain ledger. The program is designed to help customers meet growing reliable energy demand while reducing the value chain emissions intensity of the natural gas they consume.

NextGen Gas provides certified lower-emissions natural gas by enabling quantification, monitoring, reporting and verification (QMRV) across the natural gas value chain, from production and gathering to transmission. NextGen Gas measures methane and carbon dioxide equivalent (CO₂e) emissions intensity from wellhead to market, increasing transparency into how natural gas is produced and delivered along a specific gas pathway.

Advanced measurement and monitoring for emissions-intensity reduction

“NextGen Gas captures emissions-intensity improvements achieved by Williams’ operations, our customers and our suppliers using advanced measurement and monitoring technologies, including aerial surveys, multiple sensing devices and real-time operational data, said Zach Keith, Director of Business Development and Sustainability.

Why does this matter? NextGen Gas certificates capture real data, leading to real insights and producing real value.

The NextGen Gas program is designed to meet OGMP 2.0 Gold Standard protocols, which represent the highest level of methane emissions measurement and reporting. The NextGen Gas protocol is designed to meet the EU Methane Rule for imported energy resources. Williams also collaborated with Context Labs to deploy a blockchain-secured emissions accounting and quantification platform, strengthening methane tracking and accountability.

Through the Sequent marketing platform, Williams is building a portfolio to supply certified lower emissions NextGen Gas to utilities, hyperscalers, LNG export facilities and other energy consumers seeking to lower the carbon footprint.
